Cooperation with European Movement International

SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL is a member of European Movement International, which is the largest pan-European network of national and pan-European organisations. It brings together European civil society, employers, trade unions, NGOs, political parties, local government and academia to promote peace, democracy and European integration.

SAM.I, fully shares the principles of peace, democracy, freedom, solidarity, equality, justice, the respect for human rights and the rule of law as well as the ambition to facilitate the active participation of citizens. In addition, we are aligned with the European Movement International in our promotion of European integration across our network and beyond.

Through the collaboration with European Movement International, SAM.I. wants to reach a broad European audience and work jointly on common topics, especially active citizenship, the importance of volunteering for societal cohesion and resilience, as well as the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Cooperation with SOLIDAR

SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL is also an associated member of SOLIDAR, a European network of NGOs, which is active in advancing social justice in Europe and around the world.

The cooperation with SOLIDAR allows us, to have a stronger voice on the European level on social issues relevant for SAM.I. and our members and to benefit from the network’s reach.

Special emphasis will be put on the joint advocacy on issues of social economy and social services.

Events

Our Activities

SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL understands itself as mediator between European institutions and its member associations in questions of development and implementation of emergency preparedness, civil protection, voluntary work as well as disaster relief and humanitarian aid and topics which concern social services.

International Cooperation

The extensive experience and the broad-based know-how of the single organisations offer a good basis for the common international work. Almost three million members, 150,000 volunteers and 45,000 full-time employees form the basis of SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL and the network in the different organisations and countries.

Historical Development

Since they began their work in Germany in 1888, the Samaritans have been operating on a European level. The “Samaritan organisation of workers” was founded in Copenhagen on 28 June 1907 as the first organisation outside of Germany.
